This week we looked at branding elements, the hard-to-define brand behind Arnold Schwarzenegger, our current photo contest, and the changing role of digital elements in marketing.

What are the elements behind your favorite brand?
The woman who is the voice of Apple’s Siri revealed herself over the weekend and got us thinking about what other literal elements go into creating defining elements of the brands we know and use. There are a variety of elements that go into creating a brand’s essence. BrandFocus names seven elements — one of them is durability, which means that even when the brand’s packaging or other elements (like the voice of your iPhone) changes, that essence delivers the same experience. So, when considering the elements of your brand, how do they work with its essence?

Do you let the expectations of your current branding limit your potential? This guy didn’t.
It can be hard to see beyond the brand sometimes — but, Arnold Schwarzenegger shook off people’s image of him as The Terminator and Conan the Barbarian to become California’s governor in 2003. Born in Austria, he became known for his muscles from professional body-building and also built a name for his action films. Beyond that, he is known as a businessman and investor. Today, his brand is Film, Fitness, and Politics.

Have you entered our contest?
We chose the theme of Color and Light. because both are abundant right now, with the changing seasons. That said, ANYTHING that you connect with our theme is game … so take the time to enter the photo contest – it ends October 31st. Winning photographer gets a framed, poster-sized print of their photo delivered to them. What a great home or office decor solution … or an easy easy Christmas present. Want more details or want to enter?

Is digital-only marketing dead?
The medium matters less and less. The key is to communicate the brand and bring creative ideas to life using mediums people engage with daily, says Marc Pritchard, Proctor & Gamble’s global brand-building officer. Pritchard said his company is looking at digital as a tool for engaging people in fresh, creative campaigns, adding that they are starting with digital and broadening from there.
